Today the Forest school session started by playing the Rope Game. This involved the children making a big circle and holding hands. We then had a rope, which had been tied in a loop over someone's hand. the rope then has to be passed from person to person, without letting go of hands. This meant helping each other.
We then began the main activity which was to build a woodland mobile, using only natural materials. The children's first job was to collect sticks and materials, before constructing the mobile. This activity also involved team work and problem solving, how to hold things while trying to tie things with string and how to tie a knot. The finished results were amazing.
We finished off the session by asking the children, in pairs, to quickly collect four sticks and five leaves each. The leaves had to be from the same tree. I then showed the children how to play Noughts and Crosses. A very simple, but fun game, using any material materials you can find in the woodland. The group really loved this game.
A really fun afternoon, enjoyed be all and some activities that will hopefully be played on at home.
