Today the children were taken to the woods to build nests for the birds. Having previously watched a short story clip about how birds build nests and what materials they use, they were eager to begin. The class were split into their groups and set off to different areas of the woodland. They had been given collecting bags to put their materials in.
The children collected twigs of various sizes, leaves, moss, grass and lots of mud. The children tried different ways to construct their nests, problem solving with things like stopping the mud from falling out or putting something in the nests to stop the eggs from breaking. The children found that mixing the mud with leaves would stop the mud from falling out and if the children put moss or leaves in the middle of the nest, it would stop the eggs from breaking.
The children had a great time. have a look at what they did.
