Today the children were taken to the woodland area to build shelters. They were shown pictures of natural shelters and told about shelters using man made materials such as sheets and tarpaulins.
The class was then split into four groups and given their equipment. They then had to choose an area in which to build their shelter. The groups then began to erect their shelters and were able to go searching for branches, stones and foliage to use for their shelters.
The groups then had photographs taken in their shelters and then were able to have snack in their new homes. They we all eager for them to stay up “forever”. Unfortunately the ones made with man made materials had to be taken down.
During the session today we were joined by Miss Hayley Rees, an LSA from Coed Y Gof Primary. She was very complimentary about out Forest School session and how polite and well behaved the class were. Miss Rees also commented on the imagination of the children and how they developed their own ideas.
We then had snack in our shelters before returning to school.
