This week the group had to manoeuvre their way through a spider’s web that had been constructed of elastic. The idea was to get from one side of the web to the other through a chosen hole, without touching the web and disturbing the spiders. Not real ones of course.
The web had been constructed between two trees on a slight slope, to give the children an extra challenge. Some of the holes being at ground level, while others were higher up making it more of a challenge.
The group took it in turns to make their way through the web, some having an easier route than others. The activity was made more difficult, as once a whole had been use it could not to be used again.
The group soon realised that the person going through the whole could not touch the web but the other children could help by moving the elastic for them. Some of the group ended up in a heap on the floor, laughing and getting quite muddy. The children even had a go blindfolded, involving the onlookers calling out instructions to the person blindfolded.
The final part of the structured activity was to play Noughts and Crosses, using twigs and leaves. This was played in pairs, some children having more luck then others.
The children then had some free time to explore and play their own games. We played golf using sticks and Crab apples, decorated faces using mud and charcoal, spent time climbing trees.
