Croeso i Ddosbarth Topaz
Croeso and Welcome to the crazy class!!! -
Dosbarth Topaz..... where every day is a new adventure.
I am the class teacher, Miss Janik and I will do everything I can to make sure your child loves coming to school every day and achieves their full potential.
I am currently Language, Literacy and Communication Lead and have overall responsibility for Welsh. Mrs Noyes is my amazing Teaching Assistant this year and together we make sure that your child has a high standard of education and the right mix of engagement and enjoyment in a caring, nurturing and fun environment.
Outlined below is some useful information about Topaz class. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me. Topaz has a Twitter account where I post photos regularly of our activities. Please follow us on Twitter @year3_pps. You can also e-mail me through Purple Mash
Ymarfer Corff - P.E.
P.E and Games will take place on a Tuesday and your child will need a full P.E kit, including appropriate footwear for outdoor games sessions.
Ysgolion Goedwig - Forest Schools
Forest schools sessions will take place every Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure you have appropriate footwear and clothing! It gets very cold in the winter so plenty of layers, warm/waterproof coat, hats, gloves and scarves are advised.
Spelling and Times Table Challenges
You will be given spellings/tables to learn every Friday for a test the following week. Make sure you practise and learn them at home! Year 3 maths can be quite tricky and your child will find things so much easier if they have a stronger grasp of their tables. Before they start Year 3, children should know their 2's, 5's and 10 times tables. In Year 3, we learn our 3, 4, 6 and 8 times tables. Please help your child with their tables at home to improve their Maths confidence in school.
Reading - Darllen
Reading is so important in education and has a very high priority in Year 3. In Topaz class we read every day. Reading is a mixture of several different types of reading strategies.
Whole class guided reading sessions are when where we read a section together, as a class and analyse the text features in depth, as a class.
Shared reading is when the class teacher (me!) reads a specific text to the class and we again, analyse the text features, punctuation, vocabulary and grammar.
We also do daily guided reading in a small group which is similar to whole class guided reading but each group is at a level appropriate to their individual ability.
Pupils also peer read to one another and in threes so they have the opportunity to practise reading to a small audience. Peer reading is so important because the person being read to gets the opportunity to ask questions about the text which, in turn, improves their oracy development. Pupils then swap so all children have the opportunity to read and be read to.
Finally, we also read to pupils individually to pupils read on a 1-1 basis.
Guided reading focuses on the specific teaching of reading so this is our main approach in school but all of the pieces of the reading jigsaw add together to make sure your child is being taught how to read and achieving their full potential. It is important that pupils read at home and that parents support their child in their reading journey. Please ensure that pupils always have their book bag in school every day.

Autumn 2 - Natural Disasters
Spring - Bones and Gory bits
Summer - The Victorians
This is a strange time for everyone and we have all had to adapt to new ways of teaching and learning. I would like to take this opportunity to say what an amazing job you are all doing in supporting your child's learning and well-being during this time and i cannot thank you enough. I would love to know how you are keeping busy and happy during these difficult times - please tweet me messages, photos or videos and let me know how you're all doing.
Home learning this half term will be on Purple Mash. There will be a set Literacy task and maths task for your child to do every day. These tasks are compulsory. I will also set additional fun tasks for the children to complete once they have completed their main tasks. A daily register of attendance will be taken as normal. If you have any problems, please send me a message via Twitter during school hours and I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Pupils have also been given a menu of tasks to choose from. You can send me photographs of pupils' work on Purple Mash or via Twitter.
Please look after yourselfves and stay safe.
